Our Network

The South West Neurosurgery Operational Delivery Network (SW Neurosurgery ODN) was formally established in April 2025, evolving from the work of the former regional Neurosurgery Transformation Group. The ODN’s membership comprises of two adult neurosurgical centres in the region:

  • Southmead Hospital, Bristol (North Bristol NHS Trust)

  • Derriford Hospital, Plymouth (University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust)

The SW Neurosurgery ODN is one of eight Neurosurgery Operational Delivery Networks in England. The Neurosurgery ODNs have been established to facilitate collaborative working by bringing together commissioners, providers and patients in the design and delivery of high-quality neurosurgical services.

The aims of the Neurosurgery ODNs are to improve access to excellent care for elective and emergency patients presenting with neurosurgical and spinal conditions and to reduce variation in clinical practice between neurosurgery providers. This is achieved by sharing learning, experiences, knowledge, skills and best practice for the benefit of everyone within that specialist environment through various quality improvement and transformation programmes and projects.
